Biography

Over the past 15 years as a DJ, Downton has been fortunate to have experienced many trends in modern club culture.Brought up on the Soul, Funk & Disco that was on constant loop in his family Home, to his teenage years in the early 90’s listening to tape packs from legendary Rave’s such as Fantazia, Obsession & Dreamscape, It was clear that Downton had a love for Dance Music.Downton developed his Djing skills playing on Pirate Radio in London, broadcasting his debut show at 17, spinning 4×4 Garage. He would go on to feature on many of the leading Pirate Stations, holding down Prime Time Shows on Passion FM, D-Vine FM, Y2k FM & Xtreme FM.

Playing on these stations also gave Downton his first taste of playing in Clubs. He made many appearances at venues such as: Bagleys, Club Colosseum, Camden Palace & the Gass Club.

Over the years Downton’s style has been influenced by his experiences in clubland. The most notable & life changing example of this was his first trip to the clubbing Mecca, Ibiza in 1999. Downton returned from that trip with a new enthusiasm as he had become bored with the Garage sound that was being played. It was time for a change & his introduction to the House scene was inspirational. He trawled London’s many record shops searching for those treasured House records he had heard in the Super Clubs of Ibiza & spent valuable time honing & developing his sound as a House DJ.

In 2004 things really kicked off for Downton. After submitting a demo to London’s prestigious House FM he was rewarded with a Monday drive time show & later that summer he entered into the foray of Club Promotion, holding his first Precious People party @ Egg, London.

He made many contacts during this time, which has enabled him to forge a DJ career which has seen him play at some amazing parties including: Bedrock, Circus, Size, Dig Deeper, Space, Jaded, Mixmag Parties, Wonderland, Garlands, Saturday Sessions @ MOS, Lock & Load Events.

Playing at these high profile parties has meant Downton has graced the same bill as artists such as: Armand Van Helden, John Digweed, Pete Tong, Eric Prydz, Justice, Danny Howells, Timo Mass, Jon Carter, Matt Tolfrey, Yousef, Terry Farley, Pure Science, Fergie, X-Press 2, D Ramirez, Jerome Sydenham, Tim Sheridan, Geddes & many more.

Downton is proud to have held residencies @ Egg (5 Years), The Cross (4 years), Pacha (3 years), Turnmills (2 years). Having also had regular plays at Ministry Of Sound & playing at practically every other venue in London. He has also been fortunate enough to have travelled internationally to DJ, having played in Ibiza, Miami & Bilbao already & with bookings in Ibiza this year.

More recently Downton has become known for his Deep & Tech House productions on the Celestial Recordings label. With several releases already under his belt, he has been gaining some great feedback & support from major players in the scene such as Ministry Of Sound Radio & Proton Radio. In 2011 Downton is set to release 4 more E.P.’s on Celestial Recordings & other releases & remixes for different labels, look out for them!
